YouTube Music Will Soon Properly Identify Audiobooks, Live Shows and More

YouTube Music Will Soon Properly Identify Audiobooks, Live Shows and More By Techtonic group After adding the ability to  pre-save unreleased albums , YouTube Music is all set to roll out more features in the coming days. Hints about the new features were spotted by  9to5Google  in an APK teardown. According to the report, YouTube Music is prepping an external Bluetooth device setting. Also suggested by the report is the addition of a label for audiobooks and live shows. The report found strings that suggest  the app will allow external devices to start playback via Bluetooth . The code is apparently  "a direct copy paste from Play Music and aimed at car systems or wired headsets" . While the feature has long been a part of Play Music, it is yet to go live on YouTube Music. Meanwhile, YouTube Music v3.69 also just started rolling out on the Play Store. Code from this version reveals that  the app will distinguish between songs, audiobooks and li...

Here is the First-Ever Video That Was Posted on YouTube

Here is the First-Ever Video That Was Posted on YouTube By Techtonic group Fifteen years ago, on Valentines' Day of 2005, the domain name "www.youtube.com" went live. The following months saw developments of the website and the first-ever video on the platform was posted on April 23, 2005. The YouTuber who shared the video was none other than one of the founding members, Jawed Karim. The YouTube that we know now is a massive video streaming platform with innumerable audience members. However,  it is fascinating to see from where the platform started its journey . So, in this article, I want to talk about the very first video that was uploaded on the platform, and surprisingly, it still exists. So, the 240p, grainy video, titled "Me at the zoo", shows a 25-year-old Jawed Karim, one of the founders of YouTube, standing in front of a group of elephants at the San Diego Zoo.  The 18-second video went live on April 23, 2005, and it is still there with ove...

YouTube Music Users Can Pre-Save Albums Before Release

YouTube Music Users Can Pre-Save Albums Before Release By Techtonic group YouTube Music is finally adding the ability to pre-save unreleased albums , a feature that has been available on  competing streaming services  such as Apple Music and Spotify for quite some time now. For the uninitiated, the option to pre-save albums is a convenient feature that lets you listen to albums of your favorite artists as soon as they become available. YouTube Music will automatically add those tracks to your library when the album drops. As spotted first by Reddit user _DavidCastle_, the feature appears to be widely available now. I tried pre-saving  'All Distortions Are Intentional'  by Neck Deep and it works as intended. While Spotify and Apple Music subtly disables songs that are currently unavailable,  YouTube Music throws an error if you try playing one of the unreleased tracks . That said, I tried pre-saving other albums such as  One Day at a Time  b...

YouTube is Rolling Out Video Chapters to Desktop and Mobile

YouTube is Rolling Out Video Chapters to Desktop and Mobile By Techtonic group YouTube  is rolling out video chapters on both the desktop website, and mobile app for the platform. With video chapters, YouTube will divide videos into segments, so users can quickly find parts of the video they are interested in. YouTube has been testing the feature since April, but it's only now rolling out widely. There are a couple of differences in the way YouTube implements chapters on desktop and mobile. On the desktop, things look pretty much the same. The  only noticeable difference is the progress-bar. This is now divided into segments to demarcate chapters.  The video preview that pops up when you're scrubbing along also shows the chapter title so you can easily identify where you are in the video. In the mobile app, things are slightly different. Since on phones your fingers can cover up the chapter titles on the screen,  the app will give a haptic feedback w...

YouTube Blames 'Error' for Deleting Comments Criticizing Chinese Communist Party By Techtonic group YouTube has issued a clarification after facing backlash for removing comments critical of the Chinese Communist party. In a statement, a YouTube spokesperson said:  "This appears to be an error in our enforcement systems and we are investigating.  Users can report suspected issues to troubleshoot errors and help us make product improvements". The controversy started on Monday when Oculus co-founder and American right-wing activist, Palmer Luckey, accused YouTube of censoring his comments. In a tweet, he claimed that YouTube had deleted all his comments about Wumao — the online propaganda division of the Chinese Communist Party. Palmer Luckey ✔ @PalmerLuckey YouTube has deleted every comment I ever made about the Wumao (五毛), an internet propaganda division of the Chinese Communist Party. Who at Google decided to censor American comments on American videos ho...

YouTube Android App Now Showing Google Search Results Alongside Videos

YouTube Android App Now Showing Google Search Results Alongside Videos By techtonic group You may soon start seeing Google search results while searching for videos on the YouTube app. That's according to Redditor,  u/TheMrIggs , who claims that the popular video-streaming platform is now showing the top Google search results alongside relevant videos for some searches on the YouTube Android app. The new experiment is part of Google's plan to offer contextual information for video search results, but going by the Reddit thread, reactions to it has thus far been mixed. While some welcomed the new feature, others seem to be of the opinion that it might be reasonable for folks searching for videos on the Google app, but might not be that helpful if users are specifically looking for videos on the YouTube app. Screenshot Courtesy: u/TheMrIggs (via Reddit) Either way, it seems to be a very limited rollout as of now. From what I can see, it isn't available on ei...

YouTube Music Adds New Feature to Transfer Content from Google Play Music By Techtonic group It's not really news that Google is focusing its music streaming efforts towards  YouTube Music  and phasing out Google Play Music in slow, but sure ways. Now, the company has added a new feature to YouTube Music aimed at helping Play Music users transfer their content from Google Play Music over to YouTube Music without a lot of hassle. The update, which is currently only rolling out to a few users, surfaces an option in YouTube Music inviting users to transfer their content over from Google Play Music.  This will let users transfer their purchased songs, uploads, playlists, likes and dislikes, etc to the YouTube Music app .
