Facebook to Pay $9 Million to Settle Canadian Probe Into Misleading Privacy Claims By Techtonic group Canada's competition watchdog has fined Facebook CA$9 million (around Rs. 48 crores) for making  "false or misleading claims"  about its privacy settings. In a press release on Tuesday, the Competition Bureau said that the internet giant will also pay an additional $500,000 to cover the costs of the Bureau’s investigation. The payments are part of a settlement between Facebook and the Canadian Competition Bureau. As part of the deal, the US tech giant also agreed not to make false or misleading representations about the disclosure of personal information. The development comes just days after  Facebook agreed to pay $52 million  to settle a lawsuit by its content moderators for failing to effectively protect their mental health. Facebook to Pay $52 Million to Moderators For Falling to Protect Their Mental Health By Techtonic group Facebook has agreed to pay $52 million to its content moderators in the US to settle a lawsuit alleging that the company failed to adequately address the mental and emotional well-bring of workers tasked with moderating disturbing content on the platform. As part of the settlement announced Tuesday,  moderators will get a minimum of $1,000 each  from Facebook, but those who have been diagnosed with mental health disorders, like PTSD, will be eligible for  additional compensation of up to $50,000. The  settlement covers 11,250 moderators in the US , and according to lawyers for the plaintiffs, as many as half of them may be eligible for extra compensation because of mental health issues associated with their content moderation work.
